Site Intel-Collaboration
An Internet firm needed a way to provide robust, real-time national security information to their subscribers, which include government agencies and multinational corporations.
Challenge
SVAM was asked to create a robust platform that also had an attractive user experience, with configurable pages for end-user personalization. By the very nature of SITE Intel's business, a high level of security and privacy was required, along with powerful search capabilities and ease of creating new pages and internal websites. The design also had to enable a second phase to integrate Web 2.0 features, building a tighter community of those concerned with a critically important topic.

SVAM's Solution
The SVAM team selected Microsoft SharePoint as the platform to deliver this wide ranging capability. To kickoff this effort, SVAM interviewed a cross section of the functional groups at SITE Intel to understand their needs with respect to communication, collaboration, information creation, and consumption. We then analyzed and synthesized this input to determine the common business needs and designed an appropriate solution, using a multi-phased roadmap. We documented our recommendations and the risks that had been identified.

SVAM provided recommendations on how to re-architect the site to make the best use of SharePoint features, how to reorganize the site hierarchy per our client's organizational structure, and how best to leverage the built-in workflows. We also developed custom workflows to meet their unique requirements. Beyond the traditional document management emphasis, the team integrated .NET code to leverage the strong database engine within SharePoint.

Results
Because our client had an existing Internet site, identifying and migrating content from the current application to the new SharePoint portal was critical. SVAM worked hard to ensure that the portal solution met the stringent branding requirements established by our client. This resulted in a consistent portal design that supported the company's corporate identity. One of the project objectives was a focused strategy for organizing the information to make it as simple to manage and retrieve as possible. The SITE Intel web-based application is the product of choice for the best security intelligence available to non-governmental organizations… to the extent that some government agencies are regular users.
